Maarten IJzerman
Maarten IJzerman is chair of Cancer Health Services Research in the University of Melbourne Centre for Cancer Research and in the Centre for Health Policy in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health. He leads the health services program of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC), an alliance of 10 hospitals. He also maintained a position as a professor of Health Technology and Services Research in the University of Twente (Netherlands).
Maarten’s international work is focussed on data-driven transformation of personalised medicine, including research translation and technology transfer. The main focus in the research program is on the use of big data to evaluate access and clinical variation in cancer care and to improve genomics enabled precision oncology through simulation modelling. He is leading numerous international projects on the value of next generation sequencing, including whole-genome sequencing and the use of liquid biopsies, to improve cancer management. The work leverages several population level (state, national and international) linked data registries combining clinical, genomics and administrative datasets. Maarten sits on several (international) advisory boards, including the Australian Medical Services Advisory Committee.
