Theresa Wiseman Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Annual Scientific Meeting 2021

Theresa Wiseman

Professor Theresa Wiseman holds a clinical chair in Applied Health Research in Cancer Care at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. She has over 25 years’ applied health research experience focussed on the patient (and carer) experience of cancer and treatment, and developing services and interventions in response to this experience. She is passionate about applied health research but more so that the findings are translated into practice and make a difference to patient and family care. Theresa has expertise in mixed methods research, ethnography and experience based co-design (EBCD) methodologies. Recent completed studies include SafeSpace – using EBCD to design a Virtual Reality intervention for patients whilst they are having treatment; and a Global Challenge Research Fund project developing survivorship care in Africa (Tanzania & Ghana). Her current work includes using Normalisation Process Theory (May et al 2009) to conduct a process evaluation of TRACC, an international trial using a blood test (ctDNA) to identify patients who need chemotherapy following surgery for bowel cancer. Theresa is a Board Member of the European Cancer Organisation, and has been the Co-chair of the Scientific Committee for ECO Summit 2021. She is also a Board Member of ABC Global Alliance and has been a member of the Scientific Committee for ABC6 2021. Nationally, she is a member of the UK Consequence of Cancer and Treatment Collaborative (CCAT) and a National Institute for Health Research Advocate. In 2020 Theresa was awarded the Distinguished Merit Award for her contribution to Nursing Science by the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care.
