Gavin Wright

Associate Professor Gavin Wright is an academic thoracic surgeon in the University of Melbourne Department of Surgery, with hospital practice at St Vincent’s Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He is the Research and Education Lead for Lung Cancer at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC). In this role he coordinated the VCCC submission to the Cancer Australia Enquiry into Lung Cancer Screening. He has been a driver of thoracic surgical oncology in Australia for two decades and has contributed heavily to clinical trials and translational research. He is recognised as a pioneer of minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery in Australia. Professor Wright completed his PhD in the molecular biology of lung cancer and has published over 140 peer-reviewed papers. In his clinical practice he particularly specializes in lung cancer, thymic and tracheal tumours. His surgical expertise is in complex thoracoscopic lung resections and tracheo-bronchial reconstructions as well as robotic thoracic surgery.
