The lecture will review our understanding of how CD8+ ‘killer’ T cells are focused onto the surface of cells modified by virus infection or by oncogenic change, describe what these responses look like in a readily analysed virus model and discuss how this understanding has played out with respect to our understanding of the major histocompatibility complex and in cancer immunotherapy.
